Overhaul aids in electronics recovery in Texas

Phone, keyboards, and charge—all possible items in an electronics theft.

During June 2025, Overhaul executed the recovery of a full truckload of electronics. Here’s how we worked with local law enforcement to identify, track, and stop the thieves.

Breaking down the crime

The crime took place over the weekend of June 7-8. Criminals fraudulently uplifted a shipment from its origin at the DFW International Airport in Grapevine, TX. The thieves then took the shipment well past its destination of Childress, TX into New Mexico and headed west.

The LE Connect team was already monitoring the shipment when the theft report was filed with DFW airport police. This meant that the equipment and cargo were permitted to be entered into the National Crime Information Center (NCIC). Officers in other jurisdictions would thus be able to recognize the equipment and cargo as stolen.

Once the theft report was filed, the LE Connect team coordinated with the Arizona Highway Patrol. They were able to set up on I-40 to monitor for the stolen cargo. Equipped with real time locations and photos of the tractor and trailer from origin, the patrol had what it needed to find and identify the thieves.

The tractor was located traveling through Flagstaff, AZ where troopers initiated a stop. Three subjects found in the tractor, two of whom were identified as drivers, were arrested. Two of the subjects were in the country illegally.

The trailer, with all $1.6 million worth of cargo, was recovered and returned to its rightful owner.

Celebrating a successful electronics recovery

Overhaul would like to recognize and thank the Arizona Highway Patrol for their diligent work. Your cooperation and dedication were critical in successfully recovering this load.

The supply chain is rife with risk, and law enforcement support can be the biggest differentiator in whether or not a shipment is safely returned. Fortunately, Overhaul’s law enforcement connections enable us to more swiftly respond to electronic theft events.

Overhaul’s recommendations for preventing electronics theft

Overhaul recommends that shippers of electronics carefully vet their brokers and carriers. They should document all drivers, tractors, and trailers that come to pick up cargo. This includes taking clear pictures that show all identifying marks on the tractor and trailer.

Additionally, companies should document the driver and his CDL. This way, they can verify that everything matches the information provided prior to the driver’s arrival.

It’s always important to have contextual intelligence, especially in cases involving strategic or fraudulent theft methods. Remote compliance monitoring and real-time visibility are also key. Finally, an immediate escalation process is needed, along with a way to engage law enforcement effectively.

Overhaul provides all of this support—and more.

Other electronics theft recoveries

Overhaul has helped multiple companies recover their electronics shipments. For example, in August 2024, Overhaul executed a recovery of two full truckloads of high-value consumer electronics, which had been picked up by the same carrier. Together, these shipments were worth over $500,000. By coordinating with Indiana and Kentucky state police, we were able to stop the thieves and recover the goods in full.

A month after this recovery, we helped stop a pilferage of consumer electronics taking place in Indiana. The theft involved a single container on a double-stacked train. By quickly involving law enforcement, we were able to stop the thieves before they could make off with the goods.

In November 2024, we also helped a company recover a full truckload of televisions in California. The load was worth approximately $329,000. In this case, the stolen trailer was heavily remarked. An SUV was also pulled up close to the rear of the trailer in an attempt to obscure the license plate and seals.
